The data are projected in the Maryland State Plane Coordinate System FIPS 1900 (Lambert conformal conic projection, NAD83, meters). ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1 was used to create the map.

The geologic map and data are available in the following formats from the Maryland Geological Survey website:

  * ESRI ArcGIS 9.3.1 file geodatabase and .MXD file format;
  * Adobe Acrobat PDF format;
  * ESRI shape file format

Use ArcGIS Explorer to view the GIS data if you do not have ArcGIS Desktop. ArcGIS Explorer can be obtained from http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/explorer .

Plain text files of the metadata are also included in the \Document\metadata\ folder.

Colors on the PDF map vary considerably from the ArcGIS document. This is due to a rendering issue in the ArcGIS-to-PDF export function in ArcGIS Desktop.
